I never thought I’d be the kind of person to own a 'walking' desk.

(... I bet I'll buy a weighted vest next).

As a working parent with long days of back-to-back calls, I found myself feeling drained—mentally and physically—by 2pm. Sitting all day left me stiff, sluggish, and overstimulated.


So I made a small investment in a walking desk setup.Now, two years later, I can honestly say: it’s been one of the best purchases I’ve ever made for my health, focus, and workflow.


What I Use (and Recommend)

Why I Take All Internal Meetings While Walking


Here’s how I’ve structured my day: any internal meeting—1:1s, brainstorms, or check-ins—I take on the move. If I’m not presenting, doing deep work or screen-sharing, I’m walking.

1. It Keeps My Energy Steady

No more mid-day crashes. That slow, steady movement keeps me alert, focused, and calm—even during long call blocks.


2. More Presence, Less Multitasking

Walking makes me a better listener. I’m less likely to zone out or check Slack while someone’s talking. I’m there.


3. Built-In Daily Movement

Instead of squeezing in a walk after bedtime routines or skipping it altogether, I now get 10K+ steps during my workday—without even noticing.


4. Better Ideas, Better Conversations

There’s real science behind “walking meetings.” Walking increases creativity and reduces stress. I think more clearly, speak more thoughtfully, and leave each meeting feeling better than when I started.


How You Can Start (Even Without a Treadmill)


If you're not ready to invest yet, try these low-barrier ways to ease into walking meetings:

  • Take audio-only calls while pacing your room or outside

  • Use wireless earbuds and go for a walk outside during team check-ins

  • Start with just one 30-minute block of movement meetings per day
