You've Mastered the selfie, now master your attention.

Updated: Nov 18, 2021

Picture this: you’re in the middle of working on a project, then, all of the sudden… your phone rings. Long after you’ve wrapped up the call, you’re scrolling LinkedIn, then Facebook, then Instagram. Now you're checking up on your texts.

When you finally remember what you were originally doing, you don’t have any of the concentration you had before.

It doesn’t matter what job you have, we are all distracted.

With all the moving parts, it can be difficult to maintain focus. Quickly try to recall what happened in a meeting yesterday, a little foggy right?

On average, we are distracted 47% of the day.

That’s HALF of your day!

Daniel Goleman, psychologist and science journalist explains, “that’s because the brain isn’t wired to multitask.”

In his video from BigThink, Goleman talks about how the brain is unable to work on parallel tasks at once. Instead, it switches rapidly from one thing to the next. As a result, our concentration levels diminish each time we attempt to return back to a task.

Having focus is also the most satisfying way for employees to exceed their goals and achieve promotions because we are not only more productive but we actually notice and remember the little things that make a big difference.

It means being the person who notices something is "off" with their client and asks more questions or being the person who just goes through the motions.

It means being a leader who feels an employee is disengaged and having a conversation to understand why before they leave when you need them most.

“Energy is the gasoline, and focus is the actual engine, gas pedal and steering wheel,” Timo says. “If you’re standing, nothing happens. If you’re accelerating – focusing – in the right direction, something good will happen.”

When you start to focus, realize you can get more done in less time.

As one of my clients finished his first week of my Performance Based Mindfulness programs, he said, “by using Daily Deltas, It took me one hour to do something that usually takes me two!”

There’s a fair correlation between people being focused and teams hitting their targets.

Ability consists of the skills to execute on the job and discipline to stay on schedule. Many of us are able to get our jobs done but we don’t have the ability to focus on the RIGHT activities.

So how do we create the discipline to focus? How do you restructure your brain for more focus?

Mindfulness.

My favorite way of being more mindful during the day is through my Daily Deltas methodology. Sign up for my newsletter to receive a free video training.
